When a student misses three days, the plan reshuffles around what matters most before the deadline — instead of presenting a broken streak and a pile of guilt.
Context
HavenStudy is a study-planning platform for students juggling coursework against jobs, families, and everything else. Its founding observation: most study tools are built for the student who never misses a day, a student who does not exist.
The problem
Static study plans die on first contact with a real week. Once a student falls behind, the tool's answer is a wall of overdue tasks — which is exactly when most students close the app for good.
What Haven built
- Plan generation from the actual inputs: material to cover, dates that matter, hours genuinely available
- Automatic replanning when sessions are missed, prioritizing by exam weight and proximity rather than list order
- A mobile-first daily view answering one question: what should I do right now?
- Progress framing built on what's been covered, not what's overdue
- FERPA-aware data handling for school and tutoring-program use
Results
Falling behind now produces a new plan instead of a guilt trip. The replanning engine turned the worst moment in the product — coming back after a bad week — into the moment it's most useful.
